Filmmaker Ava DuVernay is an Academy Award nominee and a recipient of two Emmy Awards, multiple BAFTA Awards, a Peabody Award, the Sundance Film Festival Best Director award, and two Image Awards. Her films include Selma, 13th, Middle of Nowhere, A Wrinkle in Time, and Origin. She has created seven television series, including the acclaimed When They See Us and Queen Sugar. Founder of the narrative change collective ARRAY, DuVernay holds honorary doctorates from Yale and Morehouse, and was awarded the Great Americans Medal from the Smithsonian. She was named to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2025 and serves on the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science Board of Governors, representing the Directors Branch in her second term.
